The Homecoming

Creating a place worth coming home to.

Meet The Client

Some homes are purchased. Others become home.

After relocating to the Black Hills, these homeowners found the mountain property they had always imagined. What they didn’t yet have was an arrival experience worthy of the life they were building here. Then something happened.

When discussing future plans with their college-aged children, they asked a simple question: “If we’re going to settle somewhere, where do you want to come home for the holidays?”

The answer was unanimous: The Black Hills. This project became about more than landscaping. It became about creating a place where family traditions could take root.

Homecoming Project Grading and Dirt Work

The Challenges

The existing driveway created awkward circulation and made welcoming guests difficult.

The landscape lacked clear direction and failed to highlight the home’s unique timber-frame architecture.

How Bluegrass Delivered

A new circular driveway transformed both function and first impressions.

Visitors are now welcomed by a central landscape island filled with boulders, ornamental plantings, and subtle lighting.

A natural flagstone walkway guides guests from the garage to the front door, creating a journey that feels effortless and intuitive.

Throughout the property, natural materials, deer-resistant plantings, outdoor lighting, and carefully considered details create a landscape that feels mature, established, and deeply rooted in place.
