Meet The Client
When these homeowners learned they were expecting their first child, they began looking at their property through a different lens.
Their home was beautiful. Their landscape was complete. But their backyard wasn’t serving the life they were about to enter.
The existing landscape offered very little usable lawn space and limited opportunities for outdoor play, gathering, and family life.
What followed was a complete reimagining of the property.

The Challenges
The property climbed nearly forty feet in elevation behind the house.
Access to the upper portions of the property was difficult, and conventional construction methods weren’t practical.
The challenge wasn’t simply creating more lawn. It was making the entire hillside usable.
How Bluegrass Delivered
Existing retaining walls were removed and rebuilt farther into the hillside, dramatically expanding the usable backyard below.
A system of natural stone steps and switchback pathways now leads visitors through the hillside to a secluded flagstone overlook nestled among the foothills.
The entire journey is illuminated by subtle landscape lighting, creating a magical experience after sunset.
